The name Black Australorps is an abbreviation for Australian Black Orpingtons. The Australorps have a solid black plumage with a beautiful green sheen, when standing in the sun. They are one of the most prolific egg producers of brown eggs. At maturity the females weigh 6# and start laying at approximately 24 weeks.  Pullets mature early, starting to lay between 5 and 6 months of age.  Black Australorps are still one of the best light brown egg layers of all the heavy breeds.  These were hatched around 4/8/20, so will be ready to go as started pullets on 5/20/20.
